Fonts

Arial: This is a very simple font that is very recognisable. It is very easy to read, as it is very spaced out and bold. Negative aspects include the fact that it is not very eye-catching. It would be very boring if all the contents inside the magazine was in this font, but it would be great on the front cover.

Princetown Let: This would be a great font to use for headings and titles on the front cover and in the magazine as it is very big and bold, and stands out a lot. It would not be very good for paragraphs of writing.

Marker Felt: This is a very fun and eye-catching and would be a good font to use for paragraphs of writing. It is a very casual font, which is also easy to read. It will look good in a variety of colours and suit the magazine well.

Bank Gothic: this font is very easy to read and is modern looking. It would be a good font to use as captions for images in the magazine, but not for long pieces of writing.

Matura MT Script Capitals: This is a very funky and fun font, which will stand out in lots of different colours. However, it is very hard to read and would not be a good font to use for long paragraphs of writing. It might be a good font to use occasionally in different parts of the magazine.

Birch Std: This would not be  a good font to use as it is very hard to read and is very small. I will definitely not use this in the magazine.

Colours

White: This is a common colour to use in certain places of the magazine. It will not show up very well over certain backgrounds, this colour would be best to use over a black background.

Black: This is a very common colour to use as it is a big and bold colour, and is easily visible and readable on most backgrounds. despite this, it is not a very eye-catching colour and might not be too appropriate for a sports magazine. I think this may be the best colour to use.

Red: This colour is very bright and eye-catching and would make the magazine look a lot more colourful and appealing. Even though it is eye-catching, it can be quite hard to read over certain coloured backgrounds as it will strain peoples' eyes.

Blue: This is a bold colour to use which will stand out over a few backgrounds, although it can strain peoples' eyes over certain backgrounds.

Green: This is a very bright and eye-catching colour to use, although it will strain peoples' eyes as it is hard to see over bright backgrounds. I am also thinking about having a green background for the magazine, if so it will certainly not be the colour to use.

Yellow: This is another very bright colour which will show up well on dark backgrounds, but not bright ones. It would be a very good colour to use on the front cover.

Magazine Research

Sky-Sports-Magazine.jpg

This magazine cover is very clever and well designed. it is eye-catching simply due to the fact that it is a Sky Sports magazine, which is such a well known sports broadcasting channel. the front cover shows Ryan Giggs in six different Manchester United kits, behind the caption "THE MAN FOR ALL SEASONS". This magazine is clearly going to focus mainly on the career of Ryan Giggs, as he has been playing for manchester United for 20 years. The six images of him are  showing all the different home kits he has worn down the years for just one club, and in the centre of the page is him wearing a suit which suggest he is one of the greats. It also highlights the fact that this article on Giggs is exclusive to Sky Sorts magazine, which will mean that the only way people can get this article is if they buy this particular magazine. At the to right hand corner of the front cover, there is a small list of other articles that will be inside this magazine.

Magazine Research

This magazine cover stands out a lot because it uses very bright colours that are eye-catching. it especially appeals to you if you are a Liverpool supporter as Dirk Kuyt is the main focus of the image. It is a very simple magazine cover which does'nt have a lot of content on it. A lot of magazine covers have most of the space taken up by text, explaining what is included in the contents of the magazine. But this magazine cover contains only the title and the date of the magazine, plus a little bit of information about the contents.

Preliminary task

I have to create a magazine contents page and front cover for the preliminary task in Media Studies. it must be based on a specific style for my age group.

my first thought was to base the magazine on a sports theme. I chose to do this because I am very interested in sport, and i know a lot of other people my age are too. the main sport i would talk about on my blog would be football as that is the sport that interests me the most and is probably the most popular amongst my age group.
